Parking and Trams to Manchester Airport

Hi

I'm dropping my daughter off at Manchester airport on Wednesday (Boxing Day). As its her first flight alone, and the flight itself involves stopovers and multiple carriers, I'd really like to be with her to go through check in. However, the cheapest on site parking for an hour is £32, and drop offs are limited to 10 minutes.

As the buses aren't running a full service as its bank holiday, I'm think of parking up near a tram stop and taking a tram into the airport. Peel Hall is only a couple  stops away so does anyone know if the parking is OK around there. I don't mind on street parking for a couple of hours. Otherwise, any recommendations?

thanks

Mick

Yes lots of on street parking around Peel Hall, I sometimes leave my car at a friends on Leominster Drive and get a taxi (about a fiver with Club Cars). Alternatively you can park at Asda in Wythenshawe free for 2 or 3 hours and go from there.

In reply to Mick r: I don't see why you won't be able to park in the arrivals car parks and just walk to departures?

It's 6.50 for an hour in arrivals. I undestand you want to be certain so hopefully someone will comment on this.

Apparently the free drop off and shuttle bus service allows you to accompany your passenger for an hour but that wouldn't give you much time at check in.

this is saying £4 for 30 mins, but its the bit about having staff on hand worries me.  To be honest, it pisses me off with all these parking charges so I'm trying to avoid the airport completely

passengers can be picked-up in the arrivals car parks and multi-storey car parks with a charge of £4 for 30 minutes. We will have staff on hand to direct those dropping-off and picking-up to the right places.

Another option might be to pay for a days parking at one of the off-site car parks and use their shuttle bus.

BCP or a similar agent will give you a price comparison, indeed they may be able to offer better than rack rate at the airport carpark you mention above.

Another option that might be worth a phone call to investigate - Clayton's hotel has a fair sized car park and is a v short walk from terminals 1 & 3.  If they're not busy they might be happy to let you park there for an hour or two if you have a coffee in the hotel before walking over the road.

It tapers down the longer you stay, 6.50 for an hour and 9.50 for 2, but yeah I get your concern.

I've heard about this but from a locals point of view, you can park on a drive way near a shadowmoss tramstop for a few quid.

Sale water park would be low hassle  from a driving point of view but the tram takes about half an hour from there. You get a free tour of Wythenshawe though!

I used the short stay multistory car park when taking my Dad to the airport in the summer, it's fine there are no people involved telling you what to do!

Or park and ride from Sale Water Park just off M60 J6, about half an hour on the tram to the airport.
