I keep getting a message up that says ' Word cannot complete the save due to a file permssion error'

This is a document that I have been working on and saving regularly over a period of time.
What can I do so that I don't lose the most recent changes?
thanks
Lio

try doing a save as

Do a Save_As, and give it a new name. It's possible that you might have somehow managed to open the document twice.

You could also do a Ctrl-A (Select All) and copy and paste the contents into another file.

Get a mac

To be fair, the scenario Dominion mentions above could also occur on a Mac (or something very close to it). Opening two copies of a document in different applications, then editing one of them, will result in an error message in the other application if you do this on a Mac.

To the OP: 'Save as' is your best option, if you simply copy and paste into a new document you will lose information such as custom page setup and header/footer, if you have used these features.

Yeah, that's true, but it'll keep all the altered words, which is sometime the main thing. Losses depend on how complicated the document was in the first place, but document formatting is relatively simple compared to having to re-type hundreds or thousands of words, that you've sweated over to get right!

Yeah my post wasn't really helpful. I've had lots of problems with microsoft word on PCs. I have a mac now and MS word for mac still has difficulties but I find Pages much easier to use, and compatible with word too. Much happier with the mac
