I have a gig recorded on minidisc that I want to convert to WAV or MP3 via the line-in jack on my pooter.
Can anyone recommend a FREE audio recording utility that will suit this purpose? Don't want a fancy program, just something basic, no extra functions needed, just the ability to record/save to my hard disk.
(I have already downloaded various things already, only to find they are a time limited trial, or are disabled after 5 uses etc).

Thanks in advance,
Todd

Assuming you're a windoze user, Sound Recorder

In reply to Philip:

I'm using XP, which doesn't actually have sound recorder like '98 used to (I think).
Anyway, wasn't that time limited per recording? I need to have the capacity to make 10 min tracks at least.

Ta anyway...

Have you got Nero Burning Rom (CD burning program)? That has Nero Wave Editor bundled with it, which can record - in fact that's what I use to transfer band rehearsals from mini-disc to audio cds.

You could also try Audacity, which is a free download from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX versions.

I downloaded Audiograbber (5 cow rating) from Tucows (www.tucows.com) the other day for my Dad to record his old tapes onto CD. Converts to wave or MP3. I downloaded and starting using this within about 5 minutes (including the obligatory virus check). Seemed fairly intuitive and the two tracks I tried copying both worked. I haven't spoken to him since to see if he has come across any problems.

He has a win98 system and I tried to use the soundrecorder facility, it seemed to be limited to 30 seconds.
