Does anyone know the easiest/most straightforward way of sending a parcel NOT to a person's home address, but from somewhere they can can collect it (presumably with a reference no. or barcode or something for ID)? Sending as a private individual not a business, if that makes any difference. Cheers

I'm pretty sure you can get Parcelforce to deliver to their nearest post office instead of their home address if that's any good.

A long time ago (about 40 years!) I used Poste Restante successfully in the UK - seems to be still a thing:

I tried that in 1984 when the exhaust pipe on my old MGB GT fell apart in Ballachulish.  There was no rush, and so I ordered one from an MG specialist rather than going to some iffy exhaust centre.  I told them 'Poste restante, Fort William Post Office'.  No sign of any delivery long past the due date.  I phoned them up.  The courier had told them he couldn't find a Post Restaurant in Fort William.

It was a learning experience in many ways, culminating in a bodge with lots of wire and baked bean cans, and profoundly bad language.

You can use Inpost. They deliver to lockers that are dotted all over the place, usually near shops. You put it in a locker, they collect and deliver it to a locker near to the recipient. They then use a QR code to access the locker and collect the parcel.

DPD will offer a "shop to shop" option where you drop the parcel to your nearest DPD ParcelShop and they deliver to your recipient's nearest ParcelShop. Other couriers probably offer this facility also.

Thanks that looks like it might do the trick 👍
