So what are my choices if I want to run Memory Map? I know Iphones have an app for this so I can load my maps on (and run with GPS) but which other ones do? Am I right in thinking that Android phones don't have this ability yet?

In reply to Tim Sparrow: Pretty sure Window's phones have this capability! Dont quote me on it though, however im 90%!

In reply to Tim Sparrow:

Android does have this, look for something called MM Tracker. Very handy if you have lots of memory map files already

It is a superb app, well supported and regularly updated

In reply to Tim Sparrow: Windows mobile phones do, just plug in and click "install to PDA" option

Oh, and yes it does run on Windows 6 phone, if you are mad enough to own one. The Iphone version requires you to purchase new map tiles which is not good.

I must be mad then.

I got a HTC HD Mini, its a nice size, much smaller than the Iphones and Desire but screen not that much smaller. and at the end of the day i need it for making calls, sending txts, email, internet and memory map, so its perfect.
I would expect that its possible to get it fairly cheap as no one seems to use it.

In reply to Tim Sparrow: I use MMTracker on the HTC Desire. Works a treat! There's a free version but the full version is only £4.99. Then you just upload your own Memory Map files. C-:

In reply to Tim Sparrow:

Another vote for MMTracker on Android - simply transfer your already purchased maps from PC to phone and works a treat.

Free version will show map and your current location - that's about it - paid version will do download of route and tracking of walked route - effectively becoming a fully-fledged handheld GPS unit - for £4.99.

In reply to Tim Sparrow: Thanks for the advice folks.
Time for me to join the modern world and buy a proper "phone". Wanted to avoid the cost of an iphone!

In reply to Tim Sparrow: Well what ever you do, don't buy directly from shops/take the standard deals.

Do your research and use sites like http://www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk or if you've already got a contract ask for their 'retentions' department when you call up, they can give you a far better deal that their standard support people.

You diamond!

Here I was pi55ed off at Memory Map for not coming up with the goods on Android despite saying they are developing it for the last year, and all the time here is MM Tracker.

Installed the free one to try it. It worked fine (Desire Z) and so I've paid for the full version. Works a treat.

Taa.

In reply to newhey:

iPhone version doesn't require you to buy new map tiles. If you already have MM on your computer then you just copy the files over and you're done.

In reply to steev:

Hi Steev. Is that the case for the unencrypted version of map tiles, I had always been told that this wasnt possible. If it is true then some of my friends will be very happy.

In reply to newhey:

Not sure what you mean by unencrypted version. I followed the instructions from this page to put the maps on my phone:
