I'm currently trying out a Three USB modem, and I'm very pleased with it except for one problem - I can't get Outlook Express to work properly with it. I can receive mail but not send it. The Three technical support line told me to set the outgoing SMTP server to smtp.three.co.uk and I have done this, but the server is not found when I try to send an email. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get over this problem?

In reply to John2:

Depends what email account you are trying to access, is it a 3 email account or another one?

In reply to AnthonyB: It's another one. As said above, I can receive emails on the account with no problem but I can't send them.

In reply to John2:

The SMTP server wont be smtp.three.co.uk and that relates to their server with their email accounts on. You'll have to look at the web site for your account and under the help section it should have the outlook settings.

In reply to AnthonyB: My email address is not provided by an ISP. My previous ISP was Now, and email worked fine when I set the smtp server to smtp.mynow.co.uk, with all other settings identical to those I am using for Threee. As far as I know, Three do not supply email accounts themselves.

In reply to John2: Three are correct in that to send email - regardless of what address you are using you will need to use their SMTP server - that's normal practice.

However, even if you're not using a Three email account you may need to use a Three username and password to access their server. That is the set-up I have with outgoing mail on my mobile phone - I can set my email address to any account but I still have to use my Orange username and password.

However, if the server can't be found it's either going to be a slightly incorrect address or something less easy to reslove.
