If you're questioning the meaning of life because you've been unhappy and depressed a good bit, click here.

On a related note, if you want to know the meaning of life because you feel useless and worthless, click here.

If you want to see our answer so that you can prove your intellectual prowess by poking holes in it, click here.

If something awful just happened to you or someone you care about and you don't understand why bad things happen to good people, click here.

If you would like to help the world but most of the rest of the world seems completely insane, click here.

If you wonder why there is so much hatred in the world, click here.

If you wonder why there is so much violence in our society, click here.

If you really don't care about the meaning of life, you're just surfing and ended up here, click here.

In reply to Padraig: WTF? Just curious what other people think the meaning of life is. Suppose I am interested to see if I share common ground with many people.

To the OP, that above is the meaning of life.

Given the choice between being funny and clever and not being funny and clever; it's always better to be funny and clever.

That said, most people's meaning of life is to be told what to do by people more powerful than them. And the meaning of life for those more powerful than them is to get those less powerful than them to do what they say, which is mainly determined for them by people more powerful than them.

And to watch all currently available series of The Wire.

What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

In reply to tommyzero: Perhaps to discover what the meaning of life is (for each individual it’s going to be different).

In reply to tommyzero: Life is what you make it. Positive if you are; negative if you are for the most part I'd say. Everyone has a choice (most of us), to make the right choices, e.g. eliminate what is not good in your life and focus only on what is good; and that's what I call "Healthy".

I think there is no meaning, no design. You just are, and all we do is try and placate the animal desires in us to keep us happy while we are alive. I think even lofty ideals, altruism and our conscience our just aspects of our animal nature. So no meaning, no point, just a big human ego that can't contemplate being as insignificant as the dust around us.

"I have no use for those on welfare, no patience whatsoever, but if I am to be honest with myself, I must admit that they have no use for me either. I do not regret having political differences with men that I respect. I do regret however, that our philosophies kept us apart. I could never conceive why I could never convince my kitchen staff that I looked forward to a good bowl of chili now and then. I have heard the word "sir," more often than I have heard the word "friend," but I suppose there are other rewards for wealth. I have met with kings; during these conferences I have suppressed bizarre thoughts. Could I beat him in a foot race? Could I throw a ball further than he? No matter what our facades, we are all children. To raise your rifle is to lower your sights. No matter what you are told there is no such thing as an even trade. I was born into a position of extreme wealth, but I have spent many sleepless nights thinking about extreme poverty. I have lived a lot, trembled a lot, was surrounded by little men who forgot that we entered naked and exit naked and that no accountant can audit life in our favor. When I was a boy, I was told that the Lord fashioned us from His own image, that's when I decided to manufacture mirrors. Security. Tranquility. A Well Deserved Rest. All the aims I have pursued will soon be realized.

Life ... is a state of mind."

In reply to rich:
in all likelihood at the very end if the universe collapses we'll all end up part of the same molecular soup we started as. all deeds, acts of kindness, historical events, erased, nothing remember, no medium to remember it. to my mind as sentient beings who have the capacity to suffer we owe it to ourselves to live in a way that minimises suffering to others, as this makes everyones brief spell on earth more pleasant.

In reply to tommyzero:

Meaning is an odd way to phrase the question. I mean, I don't ask the meaning of coffee. I understand the purpose of coffee (as far as it affects me).

As far as coffee goes, I also understand how it is expected that I would use it.

I can only answer for my life how I feel it should be used, and the answer is fully.

32, what number base is that?

In reply to AlisonSmiles: Whooooooh. Great answer (even for 8.36am on a WEDNESDAY)

Surely a life can have a meaning? Perhaps the meaning is determined by others and the purpose is that which guides the individual?
