Went down to see the grand opening of the Shard last night. Any other UKCers there , what did you think ? personally i was expecting a grander affair but maybe they're saving the pennies for a few more weeks .

In reply to Nadir khan: I never really find laser displays to amount to much, just look like giant torches. A mass of fireworks round it would have been quite a sight!

Hi Nadir.

Great pics, it's quite a building. I did a few jobs photographing the build for MACE in its early stages. I was in the foundations half an hour before they started the cement pour. They were huge. It was a hole about 4 metres deep and about half the size of a football pitch, full of rebar cages. Like an immense mirror maze, would have been easy to have got lost - and entombed - down there. I also did a brief shoot when they got a bunch of parkour lads in to test the site's security. They found a few weak spots, but on the whole were unable to get in. Didn't stop the urbex and BASE people though!

Fantastic picture. I was crammed up on the millennium bridge without a tripod so struggled to get anything interesting.

I was not that impressed with the show, the atmosphere was good though so was worth the trip.

In reply to BenJacobs: Agree , the show , considering how cool it could have been was a non event . A missed opportunity . The music sounded as if it was coming from a small iPod dock somewhere , didn't realise till after it was the LSO ! There are some more shots on my blog which I actually managed to edit a bit better and correct some of the distortion . have just ordered a 24mm TSE ii which should help with this sort of thing
