Hi

Just wondering if anyone has ever had any success with 3rd party actions for Photoshop? Particularly those that reproduce digitally the kind of effect that you get from shooting on Velvia etc?

Yeah. I've tried "velvia vision" and similar things to give me "that look" on my digital shots, having used a fair bit of Velvia before I switched to the dark side. I wasn't that impressed TBH.

Basically I now just shoot raw with daylight white balance and I have a standard set of settings in lightroom which give me the look I like.

In reply to Paul Evans: hi Paul, Can you tell us a bit more about the exact 'actions' you use to get that special look?

I have used the VV as well and was not very impressed either!

I'm trying Chris, I really am!

I had it as an PS action,it whacks up the reds, and increases the overall saturation.
You may find it as a free download on the Fred Miranda website.

Film isn't nonsense. Working in a darkroom is 100 times more satisfying than infront of a computer. Just look at the old masters like Weegee, great shots some of which were printed in the back of his car all that time ago. If I could afford to shoot film all the time i would. People say photography is photography whether film or digital, there is definatlty a difference.

I used to have the older version of this (32 bit) and I really liked the velvia results. As the effect is created on a separate layer on top of your main image in PS you can control the intensity using the opacity settings. I think using the effect at 100% was a little over the top though. Worth giving the free trial a shot and see what you think.

Good recommendation. I have been using colour effects pro, but it doesn't have that many filters. Will give this a go.

Thanks, that looks bloody handy. I'm just about to finish a commercial job and wasn't looking forward to the processing I was going to have to do on the photos, but that could be a real winner!
