As part of the Ambleside Outdoor Festival 2010, held in and around Ambleside between 16th – 19th September, we are helping to host a special talk/lecture from three guest speakers on Saturday 18th September.

Sponsored by Montane, one the country’s leading outdoor clothing brands, the evening will be composed of three thrilling and truly inspiring talks from cutting edge outdoor athletes who have more than a few tales to tell! With talks from endurance coach Marc Laithwaite, climber Ian Almond, and mountain biker Paul Errington, there should be something for everyone and it will be a highly enjoyable evening.

SPEAKERS

Marc Laithwaite: Lakeland 100 – the Ultra Tour of The Lake District.
The Lakeland 100 is the most spectacular race in the UK. The circular 100 mile route encompasses the high passes of the Lake District with over 6300m of ascent. In its third year and incredibly fast growing in popularity, the Lakeland 100 is set to be a world classic ultra race. Organiser of the Lakeland 100, Marc Laithwaite is a Sports scientist as the Endurance Coach, a seasoned Triathlete, and writer for numerous UK publications. Marc will share stories of what such an endurance challenge it is both for the participants and the organisers!

Ian Almond: Patagonia Expedition - Spring 2010
Ian is a talented Alpinist from Ambleside (and ex-Climbers Shop employee) with an impressive and steadily growing mountain CV. He will recount his 4 week expedition to Patagonia, climbing on Ag Guillaumet, Ag Poincenot, Ag Mermoz and Fitzroy. From perfect weather to Hurricane winds, incredible granite climbing to tales from camp sunshine, Ian Almond gives a gripping and inspiring presentation of his adventures.

Paul Errington: Highest and Coldest in 2010 – The three toughest Mountain Bike races in the World.
