Could be an interesting evening.

I liked this bit:

A short film on DVD of Dolphin in action is also included with the book. This grainy, black and white film is remarkable in showing Dolphin leaping up rocks with no ropes or equipment; something we just don't see anymore.

In reply to Bulls Crack: I'm getting this posted up from Yorkshire, can't wait.

I'd love to read this. He was such an inspiration to me when I was starting climbing at Almscliffe.

In reply to andi turner:

I remember going to a Gritstone Club evening, and they showed film clips of Dolphin at Almscliffe.

As the previous poster said, inspirational. Might have to get the book!

In reply to J1234:

Tom's book (with free dvd) is available from

The Gritstone Club
www.gritstoneclub.org.uk

and from

The Book Case
www.bookcase.co.uk

29 Market Street
Hebden Bridge, HX7 6EU
01422 845 353

The profits from the book do indeed go to a good cause, namely the Jack Bloor Fund, www.jackbloor.co.uk

Jack Bloor was a close friend and climbing partner of Arthur Dolphin.
Following Jack Bloor's death in 1984, the Jack Bloor fund was established to continue his work in helping those who lack the means to pursue their dreams in the outdoors.

check out http://genevalunch.com/book-my-place/2010/01/25/memories-of-dolphin-a-rock-...

The ISBN of the book is 978-0-9564153-0-1

And by the way, the review on the Hebweb www.hebdenbridge.co.uk which was quoted earlier - the bit about "such as we don't see nowadays..." - was written by an enthusiastic person - not a climber - who saw the film and was amazed! Certainly no offence meant to climbers of today - although it is true that to see Dolphin in action, and remembering that he didnt have the gear of today, is quite awesome

Enjoy!
