Had a look at the old (1883) stanage guide and was shocked to see the number of routes that have upgraded over the eyars, ok there's an argument for saying NTBTA was a bit harsh at HVS 5c but Wall End Slab direct at E2 5b is about right, and as for those routes on the gingerbread slab going up from HVS 5b to E2 5c well it's just absurd.

Yoof of today, no bloody backbone etc.

Don't knock it. It's my only hope for improving through the grades.

Didn't realise that WESD was done in 1883, in fact Lawrencefield was probably still a quarry then.

Stop talking to that woman who wants to confront her DEAD solicitor and concentrate;-0

It still is that, isn't it, in the Peak guide? (The direct finish is E3 5c.)

I'm more bothered about grade deflation. As soon as I find a low-in-the-grade HVS to have a go at, then DS pops up and says it's being downgraded to VS in the next guide. First TKM, then Jonad's Rib, where will it end?

In reply to sloper: If you think that is bad, two HVS 5c routes at Earl Crag have been upgraded to E4 6b and E2 6b, but they were both complete Yorkshire sandbags!

Every route in Yorkshire is a sandbag!

When I grade everything Scottish VS to end all grade quibbles and boulder problems 'them you can't do' and 'them you can do'!

Would make life a lot easier
