Amazing effort! I'd call it an On Sight if I had climbed it in that style.
I'd take bets that this summer will see Hazel On Sight E7, especially considering UKC thinks Tombola is hard for E7.

This would be the first time a woman has On Sighted E7, right?

In reply to henwardian: Sounds like an onsight to me. It's a chump who climbs hard sandstone without tricams. Perhaps a chumpsight?

In reply to henwardian:

Onsight in my book. Good effort.

In reply to henwardian: What does FIOnsight? I get the onsight, but what is the FI?

In reply to poeticshambles: Flash onsight.

Onsight in my book too by whats written there. Fine effort.

just before people start using this term, it's a joke.

Nice one Hazel!

In reply to Dave Warburton: Haha I find all these ethics strange. Why can't we just say whether we climbed it or not? I don't really bother with all this, I just climb things, maybe that will change after I've been climbing for a while.

Anyway, great effort.

No, Lucy Creamer has. There may be one or two others..

Anyway, v interesting link to Hazel's blog and superb effort by her (and the others, particularly James P by the sounds of it).

In reply to poeticshambles: For the same reason we have a police force- everyone dislikes them, but as soon as you don't have them you realise how useful they are.

Let's not debate this. It is tedious and obvious.

In reply to annna g: Has Karin Magog not onsighted E7? She's certainly onsighted a fair few E6s.

Female intuition?

In which case it's not fair!

I am pretty sure that that is wrong, I think there are a few precedents. Emma Twyford springs to mind (not 100% sure though)

In reply to henwardian: Hehe, woops. Should have googled a bit before sticking my foot in my mouth about first there. Still an awesome feat right up there with the hardest on-sights by a woman ever.

Jesus, we've given you two names above. Just google them.

Not to take away from a superb achievement from Hazel who really is a rising star of British climbing, never mind the supposed gender gap.

I hope that wasn't directed at me given that my reply was direct to the OP.

The only "ethics" here is that the STYLE of ascent was honestly reported.

In reply to Blue Straggler:

Mary Jenner as well? I'm sure she's climbed E8, not sure what she's onsighted tho.

Still kudos to Hazel, it's a fantastic achievement and I love the term and the very honest reporting of the climb. TBH, if she claimed an onsight, I wouldn't quibble with that. Good blog as well.

In reply to henwardian:

Why not just call it an 'Onsight' or a 'flash' f***ing whatever. This whole jargon and splitting hairs is getting silly. She went there, she climbed it with no falls. Excellent all round!!
