Does anyone have experience of having their ulnar collateral ligaments in their thumbs repaired MANY years after rupturing them? Was it successful? Both my thumbs have this problem and although I have managed for nearly 30 years things have deteriorated in the last few years, especially recently in my dominant hand (unsurprisingly).

I saw an NHS surgeon last year and was offered ligament reconstruction (taking a bit of apparently superfluous tendon from each wrist) - or the "gold standard" of joint fusion.  The latter freaked me out, the former still leaves me nervous (apparently it will also be a "bulky" finished effect!).  Surgery always a risk and not terribly keen on another one, having gone through ACL reconstruction last year ...

It would be great to hear other's experiences/any other advice. Thanks.

I realise I have only posted twice on UKC and both times to do with injury. I do climb, not just moan about injuries! In my defence, my other half is a regular poster to UKC and the gallery. How about can anyone point me in the right direction for a really good hand physio in Scotland, ideally who climbs or understands climbing/sport?! Would be good to get their view in tandem with surgeon's review which is due soon. Thanks so much!
