Family holidaying near Cardigan next week, and was wondering if there's any worthwhile easy top roping to take the kids on. I've only got the Rockfax 2009 select guide, which has very little in the North, and other than Saddle Head, nothing suitable in the south.

The kids have done a little bit indoors and been outside a couple of times, but definitely not ready to be dangled off a sea cliff.

Any recommendations gratefully received, but also "I wouldn't bother mate" would be good to know.

Cheers

By far your best option is Sun Slab at Pen-y-Cyfrwy.  Non tidal, short, with a few nice easy routes.  Belays are slightly fiddly.

Second this suggestion, there are two BMC bombproof stakes at the top and with a rigging rope both can be used to belay most of the simple routes. At low tide you can scramble in safely, at high tide probably best to ab/lower in. The starting platform is large and miles above the high tide mark.

Plumstone or poll carn/maiden castle (treffgarne) are friendly inland venues with short walk ins, easy access and low grades. Treffgarne in particular is used by outdoor centres as a beginners crag.

Pen-y-cyfrwy is also a good shout, great sea views.

I will second Pen-y-Cyfrwy - Sun Slab - unlikely too be crowded and little loose rock.
