Just a heads up for those who haven't seen this on other channels. Was really busy up Langdale yesterday afternoon with MRT, fire service, unmarked police cars RAF helicopter etc. really glad the climber was wearing a helmet, the picture of it looks like it definitely saved their life!

CAUTION

Major rockfall and accident involving Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) & R936 today at Raven Crag, Langdale. Climber was severally injured but ok.

Original Route Pitch 2 belay block now collapsed with large debris scattered along the traverse and below crag.

Avoid for a while to allow settlement.

Safe climbing….

I hope that the climber recovers speedily.

Were they severally, or severely injured or both?

I will be sad to see changed Raven Crag. I've soloed original route a couple of times in the past. If this had happened at that time, I would have died.

Once again; I hope that the climber is not suffering much.

Are there pictures of this? Just trying to visual the rockfall position.

What I saw from the road was lots of people around the ledge area where you traverse left towards the pinnacle block ( up and left of the tree)

I was in Langdale this weekend.

On site report from today (Sunday).

The Pinnacle that stood above the belay for three routes has completely collapsed and is no more.

Holly Tree Traverse and Oak Tree Wall are too dangerous to climb. Original Route can still be climbed (with care) by the route in the current FRCC guidebook to Langdale but not by the route in LDR 3.

The current guidebook lists the pinnacle as an optional belay.

The area around the pinnacle is very unstable with a large block poised to fall. It would be unwise to approach the area until it has been cleared and stabilised.

It would also be unwise to linger below the crag anywhere from Raven Crag Gully to the start of Original Route, as more rockfall may occur.

See attached pics. They show the remains of the pinnacle as seen from Raven Crag Gully and the block that is poised to fall.
