Hi

I made a thread a while ago about some wrist pain, and I'v now found out that it's Tendonitis- it's only around the flexor tendon on the lower left part of my wrist (palms up) though- and after watching the video on here on how to cure tennis elbow with a stick with a weight on the end- would a similar thing work in this instance?

Thanks

In reply to Evilllamas:

I've had it a couple of times, keeping it moving and taking ibuprofen seems to get it to go after a while.

In reply to Evilllamas:

Wait untill any inflamation has gone down and use R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, compression and Elevation) as required and then being some light strengthening excersies. Many of these injuries are a function of muscle imbalance and so if you cna balance this indifference out ideally this should go away... pretty basic chat am afraid but usually works if you can follow it.

I had this for ages, sports massage really seemed to help.

In reply to Evilllamas: I'm currently recovering from the same. The doctor suggested getting a small, soft ball and regularly squeezing it.

It's not the tendon that I use to move my fingers thats not working properly, it's the little one used to move my wrist right, horizontally, like if I were to wave.

I had de Quarian's (sp) tendonitis in my wrist a few years ago. If its the same thing (where bits of tendon flake away and grate when you move it), mine was really painful for a few weeks but then healed completely with about 3-4 weeks of complete rest and taking dclophenac, which is basically a strong anti-inflamm painkiller (prescription only). Not had any further effects.

In reply to Si dH:
di-clophenac*

this is the active ingredient. the brand name of mine was Clonac, but that was in Australia so it might be different here.

In reply to Si dH: I don't think there's flaking involved but inflammation within a 'sheath'. Revealed by the Finkelstein manoeuvre (sounds like a band!) where you place the thumb across the palm and then try to move hand outwards.

Tried loads of ibuprofen, splinting, rest etc. My research suggests cortisone injections may be next step.....then surgery!

In reply to Evilllamas: I had wrist tendonitis last year after not warming up properly before a climb. Pain was really acute and took 3 months to ease completely due to manual job preventing rest. Dakine wrist guards helped immobilise it and did self massage and cold water treatment to speed recovery, which really worked for me. Now I always stretch before climbing and always warm up on easy stuff

now I remember there was something to do with a sheath...

Seriously, high strength diclophenac and soem rest is DEFINITELY worth a try before surgery. Im not a great believer in medicines in general, never have been, but it was a revelation for me - worked brilliantly.
