Next month The Offspring is starting at Bangor Uni. They're a strong and enthusiastic indoor boulderer with some exposure to leading indoors. I anticipate they'll join the uni club, but can anyone tell me about the wider climbing scene in the area? I've climbed in Eryri and on Anglesey, but I don't know about clubs, walls, travel options, what's popular and where, etc. Thanks!

The uni club there is mega active and has seen so many of its members do some impressive stuff. I wouldn't worry about the scene, they'll have no end of people to climb with a quality bouldering and climbing selection to go at, hard to beat the variety on offer.

A car is kind of a must, or a mate with one.

Indy climbing wall will be their closest and cheapest with the Beacon a bit further but not by a lot, Beacon is a lot better than Indy for roped stuff.

Scene wise, there's probably kind of something for everyone.

I'm sure you'll get some input from people who went there

A car is handy but isn't a must in my view. Ogwen, the pass and even trmadoc gogarth all doable on public transport. With parking as it is in the honeypot areas sometimes the bus is better. Indy and beacon accessible by bus but indy easier.

Join the club and they'll get on just fine.

Car useful for sure but not enough. A combination of bus/train/hitching/walking/bike will get you to plenty of climbing

(@Lrunner - not sure why your post got a downvote but it wasn't from me)

Once cycled out from my hall of residence to Dinas Mot on a borrowed bike. Didn't repeat the exercise
