Dalkey Quarry access ban-

DLR council have recently erected "no climbing" signs at Dalkey Quarry (see links below). Besides being bullshit nonsense, as best I know there was no consultation with local climbers, and the official response so far from Mountaineering Ireland has been fairly tame. It's fairly disgusting, and likely comes down to a fear of being sued. Dalkey is of national significance to the Irish climbing community, and has been a way into outdoor climbing for large numbers of Irish climbers. I lived 15 minutes away for years, and didn't fully appreciate how good it is till I moved away and realised what a unique venue it is.

While I imagine most climbers (myself included when I travel home) will ignore this, it's going to present a particular issue for the various instructors and outdoor groups that use it (side note, there's no mention of a ban on abseiling...). Any feedback (preferrably constructive, but I'm not opposed to less constructive language in this case...) would be helpful in trying to put pressure on the council to reverse this. Particularly if you've visited Dalkey from abroad, it would help paint a picture of it's importance to climbers.

DLR councillors (they don't actually have much power, but can heap a lot of pressure on the council and make it a more public matter- probably most useful to direct it to the Cathaoirleach- https://www.dlrcoco.ie/council-democracy/dlr-councillors

It is of course, complete bollox. Like you I lived a short walk away from the quarry for years & its value then, when transport options were probably a lot more limited for many people, was enormous.

I've written to DLRC saying that assessing, managing & ultimately accepting risk are fundamental to the activity & if they want to put up signs saying this, then fine. & also that I'd expect any attempt to actually enforce their prohibition to be treated with derision.

Thanks for raising awareness.
Have written a complaint on the DLR website.
I've never been to Dalkey but understand it's important to the Southern Climbing Community.
