At a generally quite depressing time - November being bad enough on its own, looming Christmas etc [yes; I'm a grumpy sociopath!], never mind all the current travails - this seems like an inspiring glimmer of light:

Yes, quite an achievement, the fall with the rope around her neck sounds particularly gruesome. I can’t imagine 41 pitches of that difficulty in under 24 hours... or indeed just 1!

Various reports of this being the first female free ascent on el cap in a day. Am I missing something as I thought Lynn Hill did this first in '94 (Nose) and at least a couple  of others have also done this since then.

I was most impressed that a major UK news outlet (Guardian) took the trouble to spell out the difference between free climbing and free solo.

That's how I saw it reported, yeah.

Apparently the fourth woman to free El Cap by any route in a day.
