My Spectrum is in the garage getting a fine coating of dust, it still works though. I liked Manic Miner

Manic Miner is The perfect game! I've been into gaming my whole life, and still play them regularly now and Manic Miner is still up there with the best of them.

It has character, warmth, a perfect difficulty build up, and sharp, accurate controls. Just perfect. 

Perfect difficulty build up?  I could never get past the first two or three levels...now Jet Set Willy, that's a different matter.  Then along came Elite and all other games were forgotten in the race to trade my way round the galaxy and execute perfect docking maneuvers.

Docking in elite is easy.  I even managed to do it manually in Frontier.
