Hi, what do people use to wash their running clothing?
Currently use whatever's on offer in Tesco, usually own brand 2 in 1 stuff. But i find even with the more expensive persil/daz etc my clothes (especially t-shirts and socks) still smell pretty sweaty after washing (40* wash).

Is there a particularly good brand for washing sweaty sports gear?
Thanks.

In reply to BikeClimbWalk: For any synthetic (i.e. potentially stinky) clothing like running gear use a nappy cleaner like Napisan. Kills the bugs that make the bad pongs.

In reply to AdrianC:

Napisan is OK, but it seems to kill elastic, though I've no hard evidence for this, which is not great for lycra sports gear. We've found Milton fabric much kinder to elastic. Seems to work just as effectively.

You used to be able to get it in Tesco and Sainsubury, but now don't seem to get it there. We buy it online - 3 bottles at a time, which seems to last a good long while - months and months.

Its safe on Wool too.

You can also get special washing soaps, but these are not safe of wool, and as most sports washes seem to have wool socks in our house it would be a pain to do separate washes just for cottons and synthetics as well as darks and whites...

I (or actually my wife did, and forced me to do it!) read that vinegar is pretty good. So I soaked all my synthetic gear in a bucket of water with a few capfuls of vinegar before washing and it seemed to help.

I also tried this stuff www.germwarfare.co.uk as I got a free sachet in a race pack once. Seemed to help but then I went back to the normal stuff so it didn't last long.

In reply to yorkshireman: I stick a splash of white vinegar in the fabric conditioner slot, seems to do the job. Detergens is some skin-friendly non-bio I can't remember the name of.

In reply to BikeClimbWalk: I wear a pair of super short Ronhill shorts for running in. After every run, the bit that cups my balls smells like curry. My goose almost puked when I held it to her nose. I have tried lots of things but the smell is always still there after washing. Now I just don't wash them and keep them in a drybag between runs. Added incentive to go fast.
