Just seen a thread on Reddit regarding watches being stuck on a boot loop, supposedly linked to GPS issues.

Garmin have issued the following:

Anyone here having issues? Think I'll lay off using GPS until it's resolved.

My tactix threw a wobbly last night for the 1st time ever after I downloaded a route to it from OS. Didn't even start the route but the face just went to a tactix screen and froze for a couple of seconds... will give gps a go now to see if there's any issues.

My old Instinct seemed fine when I went for a run with it this morning. I’ll leave it at home for a couple of days until they properly sort it out though.
I remember my old Garmin Geko becoming useless in about 2010 because of some date arithmetic problem that Garmin never fixed.
They’ve obviously got their best people on this problem though because they’ve already found that the appropriate solution is a factory reset. Probably.

This from DC Rainmaker shows how you can solve any issues.

Mine certainly got hung up…

Turning it off and on again and checking all updates loaded via Garmin express worked for me.

Oh, interesting. My Forerunner 365 threw a wobbly yesterday, kept crashing every time I tried to record anything. Then suddenly later in the evening it worked fine.

I assumed this was only the beta versions impacted. It's from there I get any new versions (one of which crashed several times during a track session recently - first time for me with that type of issue), and they have had the warning for the past few days. Sounds like its general release though?

There was a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth at our club runs meet up last night from the device obsessed! As a runner with no devices I was unaffected.

First I've heard about it. Went for a run at lunchtime with my Epix and not had any issues.

My Fenix 6 pro seems to be working OK. Had an update a couple of weeks ago and a couple of data fields went a bit odd (hrv and something else showed incomplete data). Turning it off and on again cured that. (Sofware version 27.0). Tracked a run today and it seems unruffled.

In reply to Paul McWhinney:

The problem is specific to the gps chip the watch has and therefore doesn’t affect older Garmin watches which use a chip from a different manufacturer (Sony). It’s also why it doesn’t affect Suunto watches which still (afaik) use Sony chips. Not sure what the situation is with other brands like Coros.

So my Garmin Enduro (which is basically a Fenix 6) and my Suunto 9 are both fine.

In reply to MarkKP:

According to the video I linked, they are all fine if synced, it's a file with the locations of satellites that needs updating.
