3 teams within 5 minutes of each other at the front of the Elite OMM. Including Finley Wild in 2nd place less than a minute off the lead.

That is going to be an intense days racing for those 6 chaps, will be worth keeping an eye on the dots tomorrow.

Felix and Dan seem to have about 1-200m lead on Phil and Finley. Phil and Finley look to have made a nav error on the way to CP7 which cost them about 7 minutes.

Phil and Finley made up 2 minutes on the last leg, there is some really grim, craggy  looking ground between  9-10 and 10-11 which will be interesting to see where they go.

My good lady is just back from The OMM, she’s written a bit of a blog about it for anyone who is interested.

Thanks and a good blog. I did the OMM last year in Wales and was a great event, apart from getting out of the car park afterwards which took several hours because of the mud. Scotland was a bot far for me this year, but hopefully next year if it moves down south a bit.

Bloody hell, I’ve only just put two and two together and realised you’re THAT (or should I say THE) ablackett.

I can’t remember if we’ve ever met properly, but I feel like we have courtesy of the On The Back Foot podcast.

In addition to that, Chapelfell Top was one of my favourite Champs races from 2023…

Cheers Rob, no I don’t believe we have met. That’s the first time I’ve been name checked based on my OTBF contributions, I didn’t realise anyone listened to that. If you need any more racing tips you now know where to come!

Thanks for the comments on Chapelfell, the organisation was all Fran. I organise a night version called Silent Night, Friday before Christmas if you fancy a festive run out?

Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed reading that. Brought back some happy memories of grim suffering!

Really good write up, it was a fantastic weekend, very very rough underfoot conditions, but the scenery, wildlife, and all the people we met more than made up for it. Finished 24th on the short score which was a massive improvement on last year. Can’t wait for the lakes next year.

Nice write up!!

It was a great weekend. Several times heard others saying the terrain was not as runable as many other OMMs as it was so rough. At times it was like being at home (the moor), with endless tussocks, bog rushes and even peat hags. Lovely stuff.

Wonderful event as ever though. Team Wainers far exceeded pre race expectations in the medium score. Very happy with our choices of points, except that heading south from camp to pick up some of the biggies was always going to put a bit of pressure on the old legs to get back in time....which we very very almost managed!!

Some of the hags on that map are truly epic.
