I got some Dynafit TLT6 boots brand new £99 from a Decathlon sale yesterday and they fit my feet well.

Now looking to pair up with skis and bindings.

Question is, will this boot take a frame binding or will it have to be pin? Also any recommendations for someone new to touring but not to skiing or mountaineering? User friendly and safety being a higher priority than outright performance. Thanks in advance

Pin binding only. Any will do.

Tech only, I'm afraid, they're not designed for anything other.
I can very much recommend G3 ion for a great first tech binding: they have a very good flick up boot guide that makes getting into them one of the easiet of all tech bindings: they also apparently have some of the best retention ratings for the toe piece.
You could hold out to check the new Vipec tecton (?sp) but as with all new bindings letting a few seasons pass to iron out issues is a good idea.

Great deal you got yourself. As others have said, pin only. In theory they can work with frame bindings but I would very strongly advise against this unless you want you skis popping of every other turn or clamped down so tight they don't release at all. Assuming you're not going to be going full-on freeride with your new setup and price is somewhat of a concern, then go for the Dynafit Speed Turn. It's about €200 in euroland at the moment and is a solid bit of kit for far less money than many other tech bindings go for.

Thanks all for you me input, I have gone for the Diamar Vipec 12 in the end for the extra safety. I read the article link posted above and that swung it. Managed to get brand new Scott Cascade 95 skis and Vipec 12 bindings for £393 so I'm sure these will do me fine.

Thanks again for your help.

Final thing, I have used avalanche transceivers before but don't own one. I have used Mammut Barry vox and Pieps DSP and found them easy to use in all modes. On a bit of a budget, any one know of any good deals on them, or cheaper alternatives. Also would consider buying second hand.

Sounds a good deal - I'm deciding on what bindings to buy currently and have read about the Vipecs, but was put off by the big price. Sounds like you've got some skis thrown in there almost for free!

A retailer called Glisshop has a sale on, spend more than £420 and get £105 off until midnight tonight https://www.glisshop.co.uk

I looked at uk retailers and the price of the bindings was mega expensive. I'm doing my ski touring on a budget but seem to have lucked out with some of my purchases! I will let you know how I get on with the bindings.

Which decathlon? Any more sizes left?

It was Decathlon Glasgow and was the only one in store. A guy in the shop said because it was so specialist and only available in one size they would struggle to sell so knocked it down to £99 just as I started walking round! They had some some scarpa maestrale for £99 in 27.5 too!

I have the TLT6's, great boots. I was put off buying the Vipec when they first came out as there was rumors about compatibility issues with smaller sized boots (TLT6, Scarpa Aliens etc). I believe they required a larger colour clip which could knock the binding out of walk mode when skinning. Not really a bit issue, but worth knowing about.

Hope you enjoy them.

Take a watch of this - i's a bit long but there's some interesting stuff in there, particularly about pin binding widths and pin shape not being standardised, and that this means really we should be using boots from bindings manufacturers of the same brand as they have been designed to work together and it will help prevent unintentional release.

Thanks for the heads up, it looks like it was the earlier models it affected so I'm hoping that the newest version of the binding is ok! I will let you know if it is the case on the latest model and my size.

Yeah I watched all of this video the other day, makes some interesting if grim watching at times. I could have saved weight and money by sticking to the same manufacturer but went for safety first. Although when you watch the video he then casts doubt on systems like what I have chosen...you can't win! Let's see what happens is my best response to that
