Before I make a long trip up North, is there anywhere good South of Backcountry in Ilkley to buy ski mountaineering skis/boots?

Thanks

If you do make the trip to Backcountry UK, it's worth noting that they have moved to Otley.

You could try Lockwoods in Leamington spa, they used to do touring kit.

Just FYI (not by any means a recommendation) Decathlon list mountaineering skis and boots on their web site:

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-847948-ski-boots/N-327904-gender~men/T-387255... (they don't seem to have a "touring" filter for boots)

I don't think I've ever seen them in my local store in Edinburgh, though*, and I certainly can't vouch for the quality or otherwise of what they offer.

* Although you can order stuff for collection from a store these days - but who would by ski boots online anyway?

Got my touring boots from Ski Bartlett. Great service and plenty of choice down near London.

Me ! And they are probably the most comfortable boots i own, including a pair that were faffed and fitted by a "professional" boot fitter, i think there is a lot of huff and bluff and up-selling with ski boot fitting, much like bike fitting where the result is always a custom frame for £4K.....yes i'm a cynical old goat

Lockwoods at Leamington are good bootfitters, they have quite a range of touring boots.

The Piste Office in Nottingham is good for skis & bindings (+servicing, DIY srvice kits etc)

Depends what you are looking for. I have just bought myself a pair of back-country skis direct of the Rossignol website, and bindings direct from the Salomon website. Skis took a week to arrive (shipped from France), but no complaints about the service

So if you know exactly what you are looking for, you can get skis and binding online.
