Really hoping to get outdoors near Manchester soon. I've been climbing, mainly indoors, for a year or so. Anyone got any advice on finding a partner to climb with?

Find someone in your own household right now.

More seriously though, this forum is a great place to meet partners, however finding anyone to climb with in the current circumstances will be difficult. Mostly because in the limited guidance people will only climb with their current resume of partners and probably unlikely to climb with an outdoor newbie as social distancing would be near impossible.

Exactly my thoughts. Thought I'd put a word out there anyway.

Sadly, as mentioned above, now is not a good time to find a partner. Your local indoor wall might be able to help. Albeit online if currently closed. The BMC has a list of clubs which should help you. Well worth checking.

Welcome to the great outdoors again.

Clubs are pretty much inactive other than Zoom and within people's households.

Understood.  I'm not sure if the OP meant finding a partner now or in the future so just suggested contacts.

Yeah, for the future really. I'm trying to be positive and also, a little, proactive so in the event things change then we can get right out there.

Make sure they've not got CV-19, oh! and make sure you haven't too.

Check out The Rucksack Club https://rucksackclub.org for a national club with its roots and a couple of hundred members in and around Manchester; 150 meets a year, and 3 great huts!

Like most clubs, most of our activities are on hold at the moment, but you can get a flavour of what we're about at our Tuesday evening virtual slideshows. 7.30pm every week - see the Virtual Meet calendar at https://rucksackclub.org/meets-programme/

... or view the first six episodes from El Cap Big Walling to Alaskan Expeditions; and Alpine Adventures to Hard Trad at https://rucksackclub.org/virtual-meet-gallery/

Once we're out of lockdown you'd be very welcome on our Wednesday evening meets in The Peak. PM me if you want to find out more.

Cheers, Dom

Thanks, that's really good to know. What time do you meet on a Wednesday when you can get outdoors? I'm just thinking how it would work, practically, with work.

Hiya

It's all pretty flexible - People rock up throughout the afternoon / early evening depending on work commitments and weather. The last stragglers arriving after 7pm and climbing into the dusk whilst the early birds have led the dash for the pub Hopefully you'll be in a position to find out for yourself later in the summer!

Cheers, Dom
