In reply to afshapes:

Scrub the inside.

Get yourself down poundstretcher for a cheap toilet brush for the perfect tool.
OP afshapes 16 Jun 2010
In reply to afshapes: thanks, having to soak my feet in tcp as they still smell after a good scrubbing!!!

In reply to afshapes: Bucket of water with a cap full of Detol, leave your boots in it overnight, then rinse them in the washing machine the next day.

I used to put my Evolvs through the washing machine, sorted them out for a bit but it'd come back after a while. Think it's just an issue with man-made fabric shoes.

Changed to a leather shoe and now don't have any issue, always have them hanging from the bag by a karabiner rather than inside the bag so they air nicely after use.

In reply to afshapes:

I soak mine in hot bleach for the night. No guarantees what colour they'll come out but it kills the filth.

I've tried a bunch of things on my stinky Mad Rock Mugens. Most successful so far is NikWax Sandal wash (preferably on a really hot day to let them dry out quick).
Sticking one of those drier sheets in after climbing seems to help mask the funk too.

I did hear that the Climbing Works in Sheffield had some magic deivce that blasts them with ozone and silver ions, but not tried it myself.

In reply to afshapes: Use a foot/shoe deodorant after every climb, in the future, to help minimise smells: http://www.boots.com/en/OdorEaters-Antiperspirant-Deodorant-Foot-Shoe-Spray...
 EeeByGum 17 Jun 2010
In reply to afshapes: Buy some new ones and wear socks.

In reply to afshapes:
You lot are getting far to complicated and hard working! As a purveyor of impressively sweaty feet I can confirm that a couple quid shoe deoderant from boots sprayed into said shoes after each climb completely does the job. My climbing shoes only seem to last about 5months but the last set didn't smell at all after this time using the spray.

ps - wearing socks doesn't work, just means more sweat!

shoe / foot spray works for me.

In reply to afshapes: thanks all i may try all the options, the funk is doing my head in, or my partners!!

In reply to afshapes:

Sounds (smells) like you need to tackle this problem at source ie your feet. You may have a fungal problem - not an uncommon one. Go see you GP

I put a couple of drops of tea tree oil with water into a little atomiser I got from Boots and give my shoes a liberal spraying after every use before hanging them somewhere to air out. Tea tree oil is antiseptic/antifungal/antibacterial too. Seems to do the trick...

In reply to afshapes: http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16363&...

then you only have to smell them at the wall / crag / changing bags

In reply to joshedwr:
Freeze them

Microwave them
 tompilgrem 18 Jun 2010
In reply to afshapes: just some shoe deodiriser spray works for me
 tompilgrem 18 Jun 2010
In reply to tompilgrem: and leave them outside somewhere to air out

the low tech green non chemical solution, which works, is to stuff them with teabags after use. Cheap tabags, naturally. You can use the bags a few times.

Then they make a lovfely aromatic tea.

Sorry, totally disagree with that.

Bare feet in shoes tends to give the inside of your shoes a nice (or completely yukky) slimy feel. The slimy shoes are then cold when you put your feet in them at the start of a session.

If you get really, really thin trainer liner socks, and make sure - this is important - that you don't leave them in your rucksack with your shoes, and wash them after every session, yes, they may get sweaty, but your shoes do not stink like a rotting badger that's been buried in a dungheap for a month.

Just a thought...has anyone tried Liquid Chalk on their feet?! ;D

(only used it once out of curiosity, as I don't sweat much)
 qwidge 20 Jun 2010
I've just thrown my evolv's in the washer because they were more than RIPE! I thought they were fine for ages and then i realised that they were higher than a midden on a hot day. Taken them out and they seem to be fine now. Not sure how long that'll last and am considering the foot deo thing for the future.

Yes and it was a bad idea! Covers the inside of your shoes in a thick layer of crud after doing it a few times.

In reply to qwidge:

I never found that the washing machine alone really works - doesn't kill all the nasties living in your shoes. I find that soaking them in Dettol for a while before chucking them in the washing machine does the trick, as the previous poster says.
In reply to afshapes: my mate (mark237) puts some of the car freshener balls into them when he isnt wearing them, seems to work for him as he doesnt gag each time he opens his kit bag like I do :/
