Hi.

I appreciate it's totally the wrong time of year but I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the conditions are like in Snowdonia in winter in terms of getting around by car?

Is the A5 passable right through from Betws-y-coed to Bangor? Or does it get shut due to snow ever? Ok in a car or Landover Defender 4x4 required? What about other main roads, e.g. Llanberis pass, Capel Curig to Beddgelert, etc.?

Thanks

Extraordinary question.

Yes, the main roads are drivable in a normal car almost all the time.

I'd agree with comment above ^^.  I don't think I've ever been stopped by snow in N.Wales in winter on the main routes.

Thanks for the reply. Only ever been in summer so have no idea just how snowed in it gets up there, hence the extraordinary question.

Fair point, but its the southern half of the UK, not northern Scandinavia or the Alps hence why your question may be perceived as little ridiculous. FWIW, never had any issue getting about myself (standard estate, snowsocks deployed on rare occasions on minor roads).
