I'm thinking off heading to Arran around Easter to do some of the classic routes. Would it be ok or is it still a bit early in the season?

It'd probably be fine for Rosa Pinnacle routes - SW Slabs etc.

Climbed South Ridge Direct on the easter weekend last year. Was a bit chilly (a light snow shower) but the route itself was dry. The Rosa campsite turns into a bit of a party venue over easter with much drinking, music and revving of engines going on - something you may or may not want to avoid. Will get a bit of solitude if you walk a bit further up the glen.

That sounds quite good,as I was thinking of doing SR direct.
Not sure about the revving of engines though...

By the way, do you need big cams for the route?
 victorclimber 03 Apr 2007
In reply to francois: no cams needed ,do it as it was first done ,no chalk ,no cams ,and no sticky rubber, just balls and a sense of adventure...

Probably had up to BD camalot 2 with me and don't think I felt like I needed more but I can't remember too well.

In reply to francois: Should ge good for Easter weekend. It has been dry for a few days now.

Shouldn't need any cams

Glen Rosa campsite full of neds, better to camp at the far end of Rosa so that you can start climbing straight after your breakfast

We're planning to climb SR Direct on Friday, camping right at underneath the ridge. Out of interest how long roughly did it take, including the descent?

Cool
Spoke to Will. He was fine with meeting us on Friday, was still well up for it.

Don’t think we’d even have to leave that early, can get the train at about 15.30 in Edinburgh, then the 4.50 from Glasgow to Ardrossan, then 18.00 ferry getting to Brodick at 18.55
Then it’s a 2 ½ - 3 hour walk in right to the bottom of the route. Get up really early, blast the route, meet Will somewhere down Glen Rosa?
