There have been a few discusions of the best way to replace a sling on an old cam, but my question is this: with the new style BD cams which have a large wire loop would you need to replace the sling? Wouldn't just cliping an extender into the wire loop like we do with nuts be sufficient (I would say it was) and if so then why are the slings on them in the first place?

In reply to A O:

In the instructions for the new cams it shows that it's fine to clip the wire loop.

I don't think there's a reason you can't clip the loop, assuming you properly extend your placements. However, in answer to your question about the slings - it's the loops that have been added, to make it easier for aiding. I'm guessing that they decided to keep the slings because cams have traditionally been slung?
