In reply to lost1977: Its homozygous recessive, if memory serves, which isnt the same thing at all. And races are just different mixes of genes, as are most things. Who is to say one is better than another? They have survived so there must be, at the least, no disadvantages to having them.

What about the abuse gingers get from other gingers? Are they 'self-hating gingers'? ie I am forever getting yelled at by teenage boys, but half of them that bellow 'GINGER!!' at me as they bike past are so ginger themselves they make carrots seem positively muted.

It's not acceptable to harrass anyone for something they can't help. Having said that, having 'Oi! Ginger Minger!' shouted at you in the street probably isn't as bad as being captured and sold into slavery or, say, hanged from a tree in front of a burning cross.

Being an Arian superman I have not suffered either abuse, however, so can't say for sure.

I don't think it is racism exactly, because it is an attribute of some members of some races (ie red hair is commoner in Scots/Irish) rather than a defining factor of the race (not all Scots/Irish are ginger).

I think something like comments based around slitty eyes would be racist as that is a defining factor of some races (ie Asian/Oriental), whereas black hair is not (most/all Asian/Oriental have black hair but so do black people, Asian/Indian/Pakistani etc).

I do think it is a form of prejudice but it isn't racism.

The best thing about ginger hair is that the ladies love it. The worst thing is that this love only kicks in at the age of 55 when they can croon at you on the bus, in front of all your school friends (if being ginger you have any) further compounding your misery.

thing is it was a LOT more ginger when i was younger (expecially at school) not helped by the most part that i had it long.. as i've gotten older it's gotten darker which i'd almost prefer was t'other way round..

In reply to Slugain Howff: People often mock bald people too (if they're male anyhow). This seems to be accepted by everyone accept the person who has to deal with it. However, If I walked up to some people I know and said' alright ya fat c*nt' - it wouldn't be acceptable. This seems unfair. Hair loss usually can't be helped yet many forms of obesity are self inflicted... am i ranting?

It's the same, but not by definition.

Ginger hair isn't an indicator of race, although being born with ginger-hair mainly occurs in northern and western European populations, and at lesser frequencies throughout other parts of Europe, Asia and Africa.

It's more prejudice/ exception/ insult based upon an appearance (which is defined by genetics) as far as I can tell - which is what most people seem to think racism is anyway.
