I think my expectations were too high. I really enjoyed Magnolia (one of the other films by Paul Thomas Anderson) and I've only heard fantastic things about this movie. However, on the whole I was disappointed. The score was fantastic and added a huge air of tension throughout the movie. However, I didn't really feel able to engage with any of the characters and ultimately didn't really care what happened to them. I spent my time wondering why I was watching a film and about a sociopathic oilman tbh.
Having said that DDL was amazing, and the film was well crafted. I'm glad I watched it, but I probably won't bother to watch it again.
Recently saw Juno and No Country at the cinema and thought they were both far better.
