Any suggestions on 1) overboots and 2) insulated gaiters (supergaiters) for extra warmth with my very comfortable Nepal Evos.
Forty below K2s look best overboot.
Any recommendations on a lined (super) gaiter for warmth without crampons? Did a web check but a little confusing.
thanks

Super gaiters - even the insulated ones don't add much insulation to your foot because most of the heats is lost through the sole. This at least is what 'the books' claim - but my personal experience is the same. Supergaiters do keep your laces from freezing up and snow from starting to melt in the creases of your boots etc. and that does help keep your feet warmer particularly if you are camping and don't get chance to dry your boots.

Two Easters ago we were climbing in Arctic Norway in pretty brutal weather - 10 to -15 probably but next to open sea and windy and my feet were OK in Nepal Extremes with uninsulated Extremities super gaiters, but we were retreating to a hotel each evening. I've camped in that area before in winter and used plastic boots with Yeti Extremes and was fine that way. But might you want to consider getting warmer boots to start off with, before going down the overboot path?

In reply to TobyA: thanks. I'll be around Everest base camp Nepal-side in late December through January and wanted something for insurance if I went up to some of the nearby passes or did Island peak (again) etc. I spent a couple of months in that area in winter before and was fine with leathers and good couple of pairs of socks and ordinary gaiters but read on UKC some recommendations for overboots which I'd never thought about before. I would have boots for the walk-in and then the Nepals so wanted to extend their range a little to avoid having to carry another pair of boots or wear boots less comfortable than my Nepals. I plan to some 6400m in April and a first 8000m late next year and would then have to go for the best (Olympus) but for what I'll do this winter I wouldn't really need them. Agree that the insulated gaiters probably wouldn't add to foot warmth so I'll give that a miss. Still fancy carrying the overboots to give them a try though.
