Im looking for some custom insoles to prevent foot and knee pain towards the end of longer walks. Has anyone used superfeet (green ones preferably) and would you recommend them. Also does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives (i have heard hi-tec ones are good, but these are only shock absorbing).

I put the green ones into a pair of old Manatas as the footbeds had disintegrated. Basically they've turned a pair of comfy old boots into the boots from hell. It think the new footbeds are a bit thicker than the previous ones and have raise my foot just high enough to start my heels rubbing and to pinch my toes. Not a ye or nay on their performance but is something to bare in mind.

The green ones didn't feet my feet in my Scarpa's, so I have blue ones and they are perfect.

I over-pronate quite badly and use the green Superfeet in walking boots. They make a considerable difference; but I doubt that the experience of anyone else will be relevant to you and your feet. They're also not 'custom' really.

They're not super-cheap; but it's not a life changing decision either. Sod the expense - buy a pair and live a little.

In reply to UpTheDale: Try Salford insoles... they've been developed by the Salford Uni Podiatry Dept over many years and previously had only been available in medical establishments. They're much more anatomically correct than Superfeet, not foam so they don't disintegrate, and most importantly they're cheaper! So, good foot support but generally no excess pain and they will fit 90% of feet (just not completely deformed ones!!). They sell them here: http://www.ukclimbing.com/listings/info.php?id=1102
