I read about one on Kidsty Pike in a book earlier, some chap who tried to kill King John about 800 years ago hid away in it, don't know if it's still accessible or where exactly it is.

I don't know where the Raves in the Caves were, but Cathedral Quarry (grid ref 314 028) is quite near to Hodge Close, and has a very impressive chamber.

Cave inside Coniston Old Man. Big enough to fit St Paul's in. Problem is I can't remember where the opening is. Sorry

In reply to tim123487: here's a tip: lay your OS map(s) out on the table/floor and look for the slate quarries. They are pretty easy to spot as the workable slate tends to lie in a fairly narrow band across the district. Most of the older quarries have caverns and underground workings. I've slept in a few but a cautionary note - one big cavern near Hodge Close collapsed not long afterwards (nothing to do with me, honest!). You can see this at Cathedral Quarry caves where the NT geologists have marked potential slippage sites with yellow paint.

There is a cave at the rear of Side farm on Place fell at Patterdale there is a deep pool of water you could swim in and lots of cards and candles left in memory of long lost loved ones.
