can the pump be left in the fuel bottle while walking.

Not sure about the Primus Omnifuel, you can with the MSR Whisperlite Internationale, but you need to de-pressurise it.

Yep, no problem. Mine has hardly left the bottle (other than for refills) sine I bought it 5 years ago.
