hello,
am thinking of walking up ben alder with a few lads from work. travelling from carlisle.
we only have a 1 night 2 day window of opportunity. thinking of staying in culra bothy. hopefully in may.
my question is has anyone driven down the side of loch ericht as far as ben alder lodge? if so, did you get permission and who was it from?
It used to be possible to get permission from the estate to drive to near Loch Pattack. I've not heard of anyone doing this since the estate buildings got upgraded.

In reply to dan bulman:
Pretty sure the immaculate 'castle' at the end of the track is owned by a Belgium billionaire (banker??). The guy who house keeps (now thats a good job!) sometimes gives folk a lift if passing.

In reply to dan bulman: Bulman abdae parks at the station, usualy as close to the gates over the railway line as possible.
In reply to dan bulman:
I phoned to request permission a few years ago and was told they no longer permitted access by car. Which is fair enough, there's limited space.
But as has been said already, it's easily accessible by bike. Even in December there's enough time to cycle in, do a couple of Munros, and cycle out, all in a day. In May and staying at the bothy, you could do the other 4 Munros as well
In reply to dan bulman: Popped into it over Christmas. The road approach has also been damaged by the amount of water washing it away so any vehicle access would be difficult. The damaged roof was making an impressive banging noise in the wind.
