My fave, battered old Karrimor rucksac finally fell apart at the w/e and i now need a new one. Question is which one.
Needs to be b/w 35 and 45 litres, axe loops, possible gear loops, not too complex with stupid bloody zips and compartments everywhere, and, obviously, cheap.
In reply to DaveR: I bought Deuter Guide 35 on basis of price- fits the bill perfectly and available in range of sizes. Seems pretty robust so far, and not too heavy. I also have Macpac pursuit- a bit big for your needs but bombproof and comfy. Very happy with both.

In reply to Tom the tall: Cheers Tom. Just had a look at it on the Planetfear site. Looks to meet just about all my needs, and I don't suppose a similarly specced sack will come in any cheaper.
In reply to DaveR: BTW I bought it in Chamonix in Feb- about £40-45 if I remember rightly

ME Solitude 40. Ive got one, I like it, it fits your requirements technically, and it was (fairly) cheap from Magic Mountain, Glossop.
