Hello all,

Its been a while since I've mentioned this on here so I thought I'd fire it up again in an attempt to let some more of you know about this venue.

There was a thread running about this at the end of last year:
http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=481336&v=1#x6623952

I've put up a post on my blog with some info regarding progress, photos of routes and a topo of the quarry for anyone visiting.

Cheers,

Hey Jon, sounds good man. I'll be in touch about days to get along there, going head up just now for a run about the woods after seeing on a map that there are another few smaller quarries dotted about there too. Worth a look anyway.
Catch you soon man.

Just thought it would be a good idea to put a link on here with directions I put up on drytoolinguk in case anyone can't find the directions on my blog.

Hi Oly,

I checked out the quarry yesterday, good find! Well done in doing all that cleaning.

I agree with you that with the exception of two obvious lines the rock affords little protection and so is suitable for bolting.

What I would say though that I think you undersell it a little in that I reckon you could get a some decent sports routes on the main wall, probably in the f6s and f7s. If so it would make an excellent venue for Summer evenings.

Re the other quarries around there, I did a lot of cleaning of the one on Costorphine hill that houses the bunker. The back and right hand side walls are suitable for rock climbing and have been climbed on but the left wall is pretty messy; possibly a low grade DT venue though. The big quarry beside it which is used by the council doesn't have any decent climbing in it. Don't know about the one by the pool in Ravelston park.

Hey Eric,

Glad you liked it!

Yeh I think some folk would be willing to lead those routes on trad gear for sure. As for the sport stuff, it's not my quarry! If there is a general feeling that a couple routes should be put aside for sport or trad then that would be really cool.

I had a bit more of an explore after work running about the woods with my camera yesterday and found these bits:

It's a totally untapped Edinburgh climbing resource there, think everyone should get involved and make it into the decent venue it has the potential to be. Shouldn't be any issues with having some bits for tooling and others for sport etc. That's a debate I don't want to touch with a 100 foot pole though!

Hopefully catch you there soon man.

Hey Darren,

Not seen you in a while! That would be great, I'll try and book a weekend off in the next couple weeks. My days off are all mid week for the next wee while. Catch up with you soon though.

Take it easy.

Just a bump in case any of you Edinburgh climbers missed this one.
