Thought I'd share this, it's probably done the rounds before, but always good to be reminded of these things. The pendulum swing broke through the rope much quicker than I thought it would, given that the edge didn't even look that sharp. A scary reminder of the importance of rigging correctly.

At the bottom of the page- http://www.petzl.com/en/outdoor/product-experience/self-belay-solo-climbing...

Got the link from Andy Kirkpatrick's latest blog about descending when shunting. Worth a read as always- http://www.andy-kirkpatrick.com/blog/view/getting_off_your_shunt

Enjoy the good weather while it lasts you lucky 9-5ers!

I know! The speed it went through on the pendulum swing was horrible.

In reply to Dave 88: I thought once the sheath had cut it would take at least one more swing before the core strands cut, there it just seemed to happen instantly, which is pretty scary.

Thanks for that. I have rope protection in various lengths and one even has a cord and krab on it so is no difficulty to install but I so frequently don't use it. That has just changed.

I also quite liked the idea, from the petzl page, of having a second load bearing anchor below the lip, so it doesn't load over the edge at all. These simple things that seem so obvious when someone shows you them.
