Winter Skills refresher courses January 2013
A series of one and two day workshops to prepare you for assessment or simply expand your personal experience. These workshops are aimed at Winter ML and MIC trainees but also anyone with relevant experience wanting to expand their winter mountaineering experience.

Teaching Winter Skills
Sat 12 & Sun 13 January 2013 repeated on Mon 14 & Tues 15 January 201
Looking at the delivery of winter skills in the context of the Winter ML and MIC Awards, with discussion of current best practice and feedback. The second day will be a winter journey encompassing graded ground in ascent and descent

Avalanche Avoidance
Wed 16 January 2013
Use of Transceiver , shovel and probes, search techniques, analysis of snowpack and safe travel techniques will all be covered

Winter mountaineering- The Grey Area
Thur 17 & Fri 18 January 2013 AND Sat 19 & Sun 20 January 2013 (repeat )
A two day workshop looking at the skills used in short roping in winter, approaching the base of climbs, and the skills base used when operating in the MIC remit.
Suitable for Winter ML trainees/award holders and MIC trainees

Included in Price
Expert tuition and coaching from IFGMA Guide and MIC Instructor , Phil Dowthwaite, Phil has recently worked at both National Centres and is a course director for Winter ML and MIC. He has many years experience in training and assessing these qualifications and a thorough and up to date understanding of exactly what is looked for on assessment. He is well-placed to advise trainees about their preparation for assessment.

Not included
Accommodation, transport and food & drink are not included. The course will be based from Calluna at Fort William where bunkhouse accommodation is available- please enquire with Alan Kimber directly. Particularly for the 2 day courses, it is recommended that students stay at Calluna or close by for evening sessions.
