I couldn't find that much specifically here so I'm looking for some more info about Fort William. I am looking to spend two to three months up there climbing as much as possible. From what I can tell there are no bunkhouses in town and accommodation on gumtree was quite expensive: £60+ per week not including bills for 6 months min.

Also would own transport be a good idea?

In reply to squicky: There are bunk houses in the area, especially in Glen Nevis. As to "own transport": it isn't necessary as there are buses/coaches that go here and there, but obviously you would have a lot more flexibility with your own car...

In reply to squicky: There are quite a few bunkhouses in the area. Alan Kimbers (as in winter guide book writer and guide) place 'Calluna' is especially good for meeting up with other climbers and drying your gear and getting yer head down early. Was £16-17 a night last winter. Would be easy to get a lift to the North face carpark etc. Buses are OK to Glencoe but not ideal in the dead of winter, nothing runs up Glen Nevis despite displays at bus station saying otherwise, its the summer timetable and they dont bother altering it...annoying! There are buses going past the N. face car park and past the Ski place- Nevis range.
There at least one other place in FB, prob fairly busy with tourists. Theres a place in Corpack, I think, its OK and the prob fairly regular buses in to town.

That doesn't seem that expensive if it's 'proper' accommodation - I wouldn't think you'd do much better in bunkhouses.

I've used the Bank St' Lodge, which seemed fine, but it would probably be quite pricey as a long-term residence.
Maybe they'd give you reduced rates if you do housework or something?

In reply to nufkin: Cheers, guys. I suppose £60 isn't that expensive, but I have only seen adverts for 6 months. Do you know where to look for more short term accommodation?

Also, are there lots of climbers around and should it be easy to find partners?

Look on the notice board outside the Rod and Gun shop. You wont find these places on the internet. Also phone Ellis Brighams and Nevisport.

There is no such place as Corpack.

Transport is very handy but a bike is all you need to get to the local hills.

In reply to squicky: Kinlochleven is not too far away and has Blackwater Hostel Tel 01855 831253 - next to Kinlochleven Ice Centre, good company with communal eating area pool, Bunks and strange barrel cabins. relatively cheap
