Evening all,

Looking for some suggestions for a great Alpine destination (resort/hotel) for a family driving from the uk - stops and detours en route are fine - this summer. Ideally we'd have a bigish hotel that welcomes toddlers/young children (rather than tolerates them!) and some nice easy (and very flat) walks right from the hotel that take in stunning views. Scope for nipping out and scrambling solo around for a few hours on steeper stuff would also be good.

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers, M

In reply to ma-ding: Personally I would rent an apartment at somewhere like Camping Lac Bleue on Lake Annecy which has a restaurant. More freedom.

Camping La Ravoire (also Annecy) is lovely, has a few gites. If you can get a booking...

Loads of Via Ferrata/sport/bouldering etc nearby, and an excellent cycle network round the Lac to get about.

Have stayed here several times, though not with children. Push chair/cycle friendly paths in the valley, good walking higher, excellent swimming pool, family rooms, really nice May/early June when the flowers are out in the meadows. Check the prices booking with Inghams, probably better and will include your ferry cost. Drive via Luxembourg for cheap fuel on the way, turn off at Ulm and over the Fernpass into Austria.

Can you recommend a website/guidebook for the via ferrata around there?
