Anyone know the score on quickest way to walk to Dow Crag these days. It looks like you can no longer drive up to the car park (as years ago) someway up Walna Scar rd? This thread seems inconclusive, i.e. Toreador's comment.

You can only drive as far as the carpark at the end of the road. You could never drive that much further anyway, just to the quarry track.

You can still officially drive to the end of the tarmac at the fell gate and park just inside.

That is as recommended in the FRCC guide. Its only about 10 min walk to where most people used to park at the quarry road turn off.

You can still mountain bike in but probably not worth the hassle unless you are starting in the village for some reason. Quick back though.

In reply to Rich Kirby: did this at the weekend and parked just after the gate onto the Fell. took about an hour and 10 to walk into Dow.
