In reply to maybe_si: No dedicated campsites in the area. I know of others who have camped in the quarries further around the coast. Meadfoot quarry and telegraph hole can be used. Meadfoot quarry however is usually visited by others who camp and generally leave the place looking like a rubbish tip. Telegraph hole is generally more quiet.
The beach below Ansteys is pretty nice and secluded. I've spent many a pleasant summer night with a bbq and sleeping under the stars. We did have a visit in the middle of the night from a drugged up local once who was so messed up didn't seem to notice us. Great entertainment.
