Looking to head up with family and tour along the coast etc from Torridon up to Durness for a few weeks in late August.

So how have the tripartite of Midge-Clegg-Tick been so far this year and what are your predictions for last two weeks of August. Heard that midges have been OK, but cleggs and ticks not so great.

Cheers, Chris

Midge head net for Torridon!
Tic remover.
Plastic Fly Swat for Clegs, esp if camping, or loitering around tripods!

(Pray for a breeze!)

In reply to ChrisJD: Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best.

That's about as accurate prediction as you can give for that sort of question!

no doubt about that!

but do you know how things have been so far this year in this bit of NW highlands?

In reply to ChrisJD:

Like you say; not too bad midge-wise but clegs and ticks worse than usual.

Get some Smidge. See the thread I started the other day about clegs for details of permethrin.

From what I can gather the midgies are out in force now and are around average for Scotland. Pray for wind.

Been keeping an eye on that - looks dreadful today!

Level 3 rest of week in Ullapool.

The NW in August is generally as bad as it gets for midges.

Pack some spare blood, and hope for windy weather...
In reply to ChrisJD:

I'm heading up Torridon/Gairloch/Sutherland way tonight for a wee while, it looks like there's a bit of a breeze on its way...thank goodness!

Don't know if the A832 has re-opened but you might want to check.
In reply to Douglas Griffin:

Thanks for the heads up Douglas, I hadn't spotted that.

Seems to only be close for heavy goods vehicles now http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/highlandsandislands
