Hi ,shortly heading out to the Dolomites for the first time. Looking for suggestions of places to base ourselves. Hoping to do some day walks, maybe a few longer hikes with nice huts to stay in and some easy VF. Planning on camping so somewhere with a good campsite would be good too.

Cheers, Dave

For reasonably peaceful and quiet: camp at lake Molveno. Walk to Pedrotti hut, do bocchetta ferrata, etc. If weather bad easy escape to Arco.

Plenty of other places but mostly busier.

Agree with Erstwhile. I have been to Molveno 3 times, and love it.

I haven't done much in the way of walking rather climbing but a lasting memory was the walk in to the Vajolet towers. Beautiful valley and the hut(actually more like hotel) below the towers is positioned in such a way you can walk to the col at sunset with your pint of lager. In the morning you can sit out on the decking for breakfast and watch the climbers up on the towers a stones throw away. Amazing sight the towers seen on loads of postcards.
