I looked at the ordinance survey app which looked fantastic.. until i saw the price per tile!! ridiculous!!! Has anyone got any recommendations for something similar, I just want something to navigate offline around the lakes.

Try viewranger, and download the map tiles whilst on wifi. It's pretty good all round, and better than the competition by a long way.

I wouldn't depend on any iOS gps devices though - the battery just isn't enough.

In reply to neuromancer: thanks I will have a look, yeah I'm not going to be depending on it. Will be using it as more of a backup and a mess about than an actual GPS system.
