Hello, does anyone know of any scrambles suitable for young children, aged 4+? Lancashire/Yorkshie area, if poss. with something interesting for them too? Thanks

Don't really know Yorkshire all that well but Brimham Rocks is a very interesting place to explore for young children (if a little touristy) and isn't all 'orrible sloppy holds

Vaguely remember being taken for walks in the dales and scrambling up a waterfall as a child; could have been Gordale Scar Waterfalls definitely an interestign area, but probably very busy (like brimham).

we used to love going to How Stean Gorge as kids around that age, though this was ~35 years ago. Don't know what access is like now/ age restrictions, but it really is a magical place and well worth a potter.

I used to be taken to Barbondale for picnics as a kid around 30+ years ago. IIRC there is a waterfall and rocks to scramble and play around on although nothing bigger. Great place for a child on a hot day!

Hutton roof is ok. Bit of a wander through some thick undergrowth full of interesting bugs and blackberrys to pick. The bits around the crag are nice for scrambling on and a limestone pavement of the top.

The walk up to warton pinnacle (and maybe another one up there?) is quite nice if you set off from warton small.

It's hard to find graded stuff for 4year olds. Ours has his own climbing wall in the garage, but even grade 1 scrambles have big holds too far apart for him. A walk with big rocks on the path is a scramble for a 4year old.

If heading for the Warton crags, be aware of ticks.

A wall in the garage!!! Thankyou, will check that place out, kids getting bored with same old walks. We discovered Hardcastle Craggs yesterday, but not actual craggs so no climbing!
